Following the progression of a painting through the duration of the workshop means that you will have a firm understanding of oil techniques. We also know that you will be inspired by the beautiful riverside surroundings.
We will be working outside and in the Art Safari Studio, where we will have refreshments and lunch to keep us fuelled.
The Art Safari Studio is on the quayside in the pretty market town of Woodbridge, Suffolk, with fabulous views of the Deben Estuary and its boats from the elevated deck. The iconic Tide Mill is just a few steps away and the mysterious Anglo-Saxon burial site at Sutton Hoo is just across the river.

Roger is an old friend of Art In The Algarve and has taught several courses with us over the years . He knows the area well and of course his teaching is one of the best. Roger will cover Oil in this course. His courses consist of working outside capturing people and places as well as doing studio work including portraits, working with life models. This course will be a combination of portrait, working from sketches and painting on canvas. The price includes all accommodation, food and drink and 6 day course.
Painting Plein Air and capturing the scene in under 2 1/2 hours and producing a painterly and impressionistic painting. Advice will be given on how to select the scene, looking for composition and how to provide the essence of the subject. Also advice will be given on equipment, colour mixing, paint application and the use of brush and palette knife, how to use a pochard box for quick colour sketches and how to travel with a minimum of equipment. Painting outside in oils but bring photographic references in case of bad weather.

Artist Roger Dellar is leading this new Art Safari itinerary to the historical coastal town of Chania in Crete, with its beautiful 14th Century Venetian Harbour.
Roger will tutor in oils for this Cretan Art Safari, with demos and tutorials looking at perspective, light, shadow and reflections. This is a place Roger knows and loves and he will share his favourite painting spots in the narrow streets, squares and bustling market places, and on the harbourside.
We spend a day in the nearby foothills of the White Mountains, with long undulating views and ancient olive trees as our inspiration at Manousakis Winery. Tasting some organic wines with a delicious mezze lunch.
The early September temperatures should be pleasant for painting and relaxing in Crete. Our base is a friendly, comfortable hotel in Chania old town and we will walk to nearby painting locations.

Flights to Faro are not included in the price however this price does include your taxi to and from the airport.
This course is studio based exploring oil painting techniques. Working from small pictures to large, how to interpret photographs working with still life and possibly models. Plenty of relevant demonstrations on technique and one to one assistance.
